Every struggling team needs a scapegoat, and Argentina has found one in manager Jorge Sampaoli.
According to reports, Argentina players will pick the squad Tuesday against Nigeria in an all-important match with Sampaoli no longer making decisions.
So far, through two matches in the 2018 World Cup at Russia, Argentina has mustered just one point with a 1-1 draw against Iceland and a 3-0 loss to Croatia.
Sampaoli has not started Juventus star Paulo Dybala in both games, so he could be a change the players make leading up to Tuesday’s game. His club teammate Gonzalo Higuain also has largely been absent from the pitch during the World Cup.
Argentina nearly missed the World Cup altogether, needing a Messi hat-trick in the final qualifying match just to punch a ticket to Russia.
